Who We Are

The Maple Square was founded by Eva Murray, a technology evangelist in the analytics industry. Eva is passionate about empowering women and creating an environment where equality, fairness and equal opportunities are the foundations of a collaborative and thriving organizational culture.

Having enjoyed numerous opportunities to have her voice heard on stages at events, behind screens for podcasts and interviews, Eva felt the time has come to create a platform where women can be found and where companies and event organizers can identify the talented data and tech professionals they’ve been looking for.

Beginning with why it’s important and what it can accomplish, I show you how to build your community and tailor it to your unique environment. I share examples and case studies of both large and small organizations and give you practical advice and concrete steps for your own community building efforts.

Introduction to Makeover Monday - data20-2.jpg

Her first book #MakeoverMonday, co-authored with Andy Kriebel, was published in 2018.

#MakeoverMonday offers inspiration and a giant dose of perspective for those who communicate data. Originally a small project in the data visualization community, #MakeoverMonday features a weekly chart or graph and a dataset that community members reimagine in order to make it more effective. The results have been astounding; hundreds of people have contributed thousands of makeovers, perfectly illustrating the highly variable nature of data visualization. Different takes on the same data showed a wide variation of theme, focus, content, and design, with side-by-side comparisons throwing more- and less-effective techniques into sharp relief.

Eva is actively engaged in the data community. In the past, she lead the popular global social data project #MakeoverMonday. She loves helping others get started with data analysis and visualization and enjoys teaching them more about the end-to-end data value chain.

In the mornings you can find Eva out for a run. Running came into her life in 2005 and never really left. With the addition of swimming and cycling she does consider herself a triathlete but has stopped racing to find time for other things she enjoys.

Eva likes cooking, baking and exploring the many beautiful hiking spots around her chosen home - London. Whether walking through forests, along the beach or cliffs, Eva tends to be happiest when surrounded by nature and a bit of solitude.
